I was installing an update, and the PS3 stopped and is telling me that there is "an error, contact technical support"

The power button isnt turning it off, nor is the controller PS button.

What do i do? I hope its not broken, i bought the PS3 to avoid stupid problems like this..i thought PS3's didnt freeze?

Hold the power button for like 20 seconds. It should turn off eventually. If it still won't turn off you'll have to use the power switch in the back.

Reboot the PS3 and see if the XMB comes back up. If it does, try updating again. If the update doesn't work, I would back up your save files and reformat the HDD (under "Settings").

If the XMB won't come back up/work you're gonna have to call Sony.

If you're warranty expired and you don't want to send it in, I would guess its a hard drive problem. Try a new HDD (but make sure you can return it in case the problem persists).
