i have unlimited texting on at&t, but no data plan. would it cost extra to send/receive pictures through texts, or am i covered?

texting does not cover picture (mms) messaging. it will cost you roughly 1.50 to 3.00 dollars on each mms message sent/recieved, unless you get an unlimited MESSAGING plan not just unlimited texting.

yes and depends on the message size ie how many kilobytes it is with some operators

If your picture is over 300 KB, that is when you will use Internet usage. Make sure your picture is below 300 KB, then you will not be charged for the Internet.
