We Own All three systems The Wii Ps3 and Xbox Elite (360).

Game developers for multiplatform from late 2007 games are in fact developing on the ps3 platform and then porting down to 360, so it can't be to difficult to work with.

Ps3 games are on 50 gig blueray discs and 360 games are on 8gig dvds (blueray games like MGS4 are 50gigs and Halo 3 was 4gig and took 4 hours to beat both games priced the same)

Ps3 hardware based Hidef hdmi 1.3 . The 360 software based with hdmi 1.2 and graphics cannot exceed dx 9 all new computers can go dx10.

Ps3 rsx gpu can go full 3d 4d motion realism and 360 can't.

Ps3 has at least one must have exclusive being released every month at more then 45 gigs on the blueray per game for great gaming with no load times.

360 only has gears 2 and too human as must have exclusives to look forward to and there is no release date on either and have painful load times. Most 360 exclusives actually play better on the pc with the pc versions.

    Ps3 online is free

360 have to pay $50 a year for online

    Ps3 comes with rechargeable controller

360 you have to buy the charge kit seperately

    ps3 wifi free

360 wifi you have to buy for $100.

    Ps3 web browser

360 is reported to be releasing a webrowser but knowing microsoft's security issues with explorer it will make the 360 vulnerable.

360 red ring of death and it does happen to need models

ps3 most issues are from User (owner error and can be easily fixed by the owner.

The ps3 gets used in our house a lot more, and exclusive games will blow your mind.

For graphics, get the ps3. But if you want better sports games and shooters, cooler ones, get the 360.

Very difficult question because they both have their high points.

The short answer - PS3. The longer answer is - the PS3, unless all your friends have a 360, than you should get a 360 to play online games with them.

The 360 is great because it has some 360 only titles that are amazing - Gears of War, Halo 3... and it also has a much larger game library because it was released a year before the PS3. The 360 also has an intriguing awards system that revolves around getting points for accomplishing in-game tasks - this helps breed a community aspect for the 360.

Many believe that the PS3 is a superior piece of hardware though. The calibre of games has caught up to the 360 and will soon be passing it with PS3 only games like Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. It is also a Blu-Ray player and has a piece of software coming out called Home that will create a very deep community aspect (a mix between Sims and Second Life).

The PS3 will have a longer lifespan from this point forward because of the superior hardware and since you have waited this long to buy a system take advantage of it and get the PS3.

Tough call though - best of luck,
    Josh

Get the PS3. Its an overall better console than the Xbox 360. I am not trying to bash the Xbox 360 because I somewhat like it but for me, the PS3 dominates all. I mean look at the features. It is a pretty cheap Blu-Ray Player considering the fact that most Blu-Ray players are starting around $500. It packs in with a 40 or 80GB for your entertainment pleasures. It also offers free online play instead of paying. Plus, it has a better chance of NOT failing. And comparing between the graphics, PS3 also is head and shoulders above the 360. There is AWESOME sport and shooter games out there for the PS3. For example:
    -- Resistance: Fall of Man
    -- Madden: NFL 2008
-- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
    And many more.

for those type of games you like, I'd say the 360. It's the style of games it shines for. Pretty much all games for the 360, current and future, belong to those 2 categories with a few exceptions. It's the console for the american market (which in its majority also likes those 2 types of games).
The PS3 has a wider audience to cover... asian and europeans in addition to the US, they like other types of games like RPGs and strategy games.
If you don't care about Bluray movies, then just get a 360. Cheaper.
